Abstract

Comparative education is one of the branches of educational science. It has its own object and methods of research. On the other hand, there are differing views concerning the object of comparative education. The article reviews main methods of comparative education, learning authors as well as institutions working in this sphere. A history of development of comparative education is discussed. The article gives a short review of the development of this science not only in the West, but in the Eastern part of this world as well. Impact of Lithuanian scientists is also analysed. Among the most prominent representatives of comparative education one can meet a scientist of Lithuanian origin – Antanas Paplauskas-Ramūnas, who was the head of the centre of comparative education in Ottawa.
