Abstract

This article presents a study aiming to determine how artificial intelligence (AI) can be integrated into knowledge management (KM) processes in business organizations – from knowledge creation, storage, and dissemination to its use, while addressing practical challenges and problems related to the implementation of AI. The study is based on a qualitative research approach, involving semi-structured interviews with 13 experts with professional experience in AI, KM, and digital transformation. The interview data were analyzed by using content analysis in order to reveal the specifics of AI applications across different KM processes and the organizational conditions that shape them. The results of the study revealed that AI can be applied across various KM processes, including knowledge creation, storage, search, sharing, and application, creating opportunities for more efficient information processing, knowledge structuring and generalization, idea generation, access to organizational knowledge, and decision support. It has been found that the outcomes of AI integration depend on the organization’s technological and organizational readiness, employee competencies, data quality, organizational culture, and appropriate governance mechanisms. The study also highlighted challenges related to data privacy and security, the reliability of AI-generated information, algorithmic bias, transparency, and employee competencies. The study complements research on the interaction between knowledge management and AI by providing empirical insights into the possibilities and constraints of integrating AI into everyday HR processes in Lithuanian business organizations.
